In May 2023, Sony inaugurated a state-of-the-art virtual production space at Pinewood Studios, integrating a 5m x 3m Crystal LED wall with a 1.5mm pixel pitch. This facility, part of Sony's DMPC Europe, offers filmmakers hands-on experience with advanced virtual production technologies, including the VENICE cameras and Crystal LED screens, to explore innovative cinematographic techniques.
My Role: Unreal Engine and Pixera Specialist
As part of the Lux Machina team, I played a key role in configuring the Unreal Engine and Pixera systems for the virtual production volume at Pinewood Studios. My contributions included:
• Designing and fine-tuning the nDisplay configuration to enable synchronised multi-screen operation.
• Setting up tracking in Unreal Engine for accurate real-time interaction between physical and virtual elements.
• Building and showcasing demo scenes to highlight the stage's potential for creative applications.
• Capturing colour samples and implementing a tailored OpenColorIO (OCIO) configuration to ensure accurate colour workflows in both Unreal Engine and Pixera.
• Providing training sessions for staff to effectively operate and manage the virtual production stage.
